Spider veins - veins visible under the skin

Spider veins are superficial veins distended in the legs that form a net under the skin. Although a single spider vein is only a few millimeters in length, they cross from side to side through parts of the loss and thigh, forming as if it were a spider's web. That's where the name comes from. Small spider veins have a bright red color. As they increase, they turn blue.

What causes spider veins?
Spider veins count as varicose veins. They also have the same causes:

The walls of the veins become flaccid with age.
The blood is no longer transported fast enough and accumulates in the legs.
Experts estimate that about half of the population is affected by spider veins. Women are affected more often than men. The cause of weak vascular walls and spider veins is loose connective tissue, which can be hereditary.

How are spider veins treated?
In many cases, spider veins do not harm and tend to be a cosmetic issue. From a distance, the affected areas of the skin look like bruises and the network structure of small vessels only becomes apparent when looking more closely. If the affected individual does bother with these small blood vessels, there are several ways to remove them:

Laser Therapy
Sclerotherapy
What happens if the spider veins are not treated?
If the spider veins remain superficial, circulation to the legs is still guaranteed. In most cases, spider veins do not cause symptoms and therefore do not need treatment.

Occasionally, the network of spider veins expands over large areas of the skin, which becomes painful.

However, spider veins can also be a visible sign of a disorder of larger, deeper veins.

Spider veins that develop below the inside of the ankle are a special form of spider veins. As a rule, they are the first sign of chronic venous stasis and should be treated. That is why it is necessary for a physician to examine the legs of the affected individual to eliminate the possibility of onset of venous diseases.
