Varicose vein surgery (conventional and endolaser method)
Conventional varicose vein surgery
Conventional variceal surgery for the withdrawal of compromised saphenous veins consists of two incisions in the skin, one in the groin region and another in the inner part of the knee, or the anterior inner part of the ankle. The saphenous vein is identified at these points and isolated, a small hole is made in the distal part of the vein, a thin steel cord is internally inserted through the entire length of the vein to the groin, where ligation and vein cutting is performed, and then extracted from the top downwards.
Surgery of varicose veins by endolaser
Endonaser (endovenous laser) surgery is a minimally invasive method, in which surgery is performed to treat venous dilatations, especially in the saphenous veins and perforating veins. Occlusion of the vein occurs through laser energy, without the need for surgical removal. A needle puncture or a small incision is made in the skin through which an optical fiber is inserted directly into the vein. Laser energy pulses are released along the vein to promote total occlusion of the vein. This technique allows the possibility of treatment with local anesthesia with mild sedation in many cases, without the need for prolonged hospitalization or more complex anesthetics.
Indications of varicose vein surgery
Varicose vein surgery
Varicose veins are insufficient veins, which become dilated and tortuous due to problems that occur in the return of blood from the legs to the heart. They have a bluish coloration and are easily noticed under the surface of the skin. They are more common in the legs and feet.
Complications that prevent blood from flowing naturally through the vein and giving rise to varices cause the vessel to lose its function and can evolve and cause more serious illness. Varicose vein surgery is the treatment indicated when the veins can no longer return blood to the heart, have suffered dilation, are tortuous, embossed and can not be treated by sclerotherapy.
It is through clinical examination and venous ultrasonography that the vascular surgeon accurately maps the varicose veins and obtains the necessary information to define the surgical method recommended for each case.
Varicose veins have different causes. It has a greater chance of developing them people whose relatives have the condition. Associated with this, the sedentary lifestyle, obesity, hormonal variations of women and bad habits, such as not practicing physical activities, increase the chances of varicose veins. The ideal is to see a vascular surgeon when the first varicose veins appear to receive guidance on care and prevention, and prevent the problem from gaining greater proportions.
