RIO - Twenty-eight medical doctors from the Hospital do Andaraí have resigned because of poor working conditions at the unit in the Northern Zone of Rio. Requests for dismissal have been sent to the hospital, the Public Defender's Office, the Regional Council of Medicine and also to the Federal Public Ministry. In the document, doctors criticize the lack of remedies and claim that the lack of commitment of the hospital management was evident after the dismissal of temporary doctors, nursing technicians and other employees. Besides the emptying of the unit, the lack of inputs to work and problems with the direction of the unit also motivated the stampede. The installation of the electronic point, for example, is one of the innovations most questioned by the workers. The Hospital of Andaraí is a federal reference unit in emergency care and in the treatment of burned people, as well as performing surgeries in patients who have suffered excessive weight loss. In a note, the Department of Hospital Management of the Ministry of Health in Rio de Janeiro, reported that possible changes will not compromise the assistance to the population. On learning of the layoffs, the Rio Regional Medical Council (Cremerj) warned of the risk of collapse in federal hospitals in the state. According to Nelson Nahon, president of the entity, the situation is of "dismantling". Cremerj called for a meeting with the Hospital Management Division (DGH) next week to address emergency measures in an attempt to put an end to the crisis in federal hospitals in Rio.
Note from the editors:
The Ministry of Health informed the JBFM staff that the doctors "only expressed their intention to surrender the positions of leadership, which was not officialized." According to a note from the Department of Hospital Management of the Ministry of Health in Rio de Janeiro (DGH), which coordinates the assistance integration of the six federal hospitals, these doctors are federal servants and if they do not continue as heads go back to their areas where they continue to serve the population . Read below the note from the Ministry of Health in full:
The Department of Hospital Management of the Ministry of Health in Rio de Janeiro (DGH), which coordinates the assistance integration of the six federal hospitals, informs that no request for delivery of the positions of the heads of the medical services of the Federal Hospital of Andaraí (HFA) was duly formalized. The procedure requires presentation of individual document of the public servant.
It should be noted that possible changes in leadership will not compromise public assistance, since physicians will maintain their links with the federal public service and will continue to serve as normal.
The DGH also reports that HFA has increased emergency consultations and consultations by 17% and surgeries by only 13% in the first quarter of this year. The stock of HFA drugs is stocked, including cancer drugs, which are being replaced in part by the National Cancer Institute (INCA) treatment protocol.
The DGH also reports that the specialization process of these units has already begun, with the consultancy of the Sírio-Libanês (SP) hospital, in order to qualify the services and make the service to the population more efficient. This process implies a redefinition of the assistance profiles of the federal units, optimizing the services and supplying specific needs.
